 350 350 380 350 350 350

350 350 350!!

Remember this number!

350 is the MOST IMPORTANT number on earth.
...
.......
..

What does it mean?

From the website

www.350.org

350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere. 350 PPM—it's the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change.

On  24th October 2009, people at over 5200 events in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet's history - International Day Of Climate Action. More importantly, Malaysia is also one of the green countries!

So what did Malaysian youths do to heighten the environmental awareness among the people?

Let me do a short introduction.
By the way, photo courtesy of Chris Yong, Eugene Teow , Gregers Reiman, MyCJN

and many many many -------maaaany more!

I'm also a greenager. How could I miss such an important event?

On 24th Oct 2009, I took part in flash dance and "Freeze For Earth" organised by Malaysian Youth Climate Justice Network (MyCJN) and UM. Before that, I went to the MyCJN meeting 3 times to discuss actions that could be taken on 24th.

Meeting (1) at Wild Asia Office to kickstart 350 actions!

Meeting (2) at Bangsar McDonald's.

Meeting (3) at a random place in Mid Valley.
Talk less, shake more.=p

On that day, I met the other greenagers at an empty car park near Asia Jaya LRT station. WOW! There were so many greenies there! We were divided into groups and started practising the flash dance. Woo hoo! It was high time we realized our Bollywood fantasies! =p

Learn, learn, learn!

Dance, Dance, Dance!

Point, Point, Point!

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Just a few times of rehearsal and off we went to KLCC to perform! What was the rush? Hey there, we need to reach KLCC by 12pm and IT WAS ALREADY 11.30A.M!!! Luckily the LRT was not really occupied, probably because it wasn't the rush hour.

So why did we choose KLCC as our stage? ahem, let's look at it.

Wooot! Standing majestically in the capital city of Malaysia, it's not any other buildings but Petronas Twin Tower , the Suria KLCC!! How tall is it actually? Just get 259 man with height 175cm to stand on one another and you will get a human formation which is taller than KLCC by 135cm. Opps....Lazy to calculate? Ahha...I knew it! Answer was prepared. Ding! It's 451.9m =D

Who would ever miss the chance to take photo with the 88-floor KLCC?

Neither the tourist,

...nor the 350 warriors. Say cheeeese =D

KLCC was the world's tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004, it's special designs never fail to attract people. After we did an analysis and survey, we found that KLCC is the best place to perform our flash dance.

By the way, don't forget KLCC turned off the light for an hour to support Earth Hour this year. It means Malaysia voted for the EARTH too!

At around 12pm, all of us and the students from UM roamed freely at a certain area of the KLCC park. When the whistle was heard, we froze! Motionless but not emotionless. Hundreds of different faces could be seen.
=D   x)   T.T  @.@  =.="  xD O.O

No coins! It's CHANGE I need!

hot? Hot? HOT????

Despite the scorching and pityless sun, this guy laid on the floor, doing his utmost to draw attention.*Claps Claps Claps*

Aiyoyo..save us please. It's hot!

Even Mat Salleh also joined us! Hehehe

For 350 seconds, we stopped moving. We looked weird but the passer-by showed even peculiar faces.  I felt as if I were a superstar as cameras started clicking at me, bet the other green warriors had the same feeling too. =D

Let's see the Freeze For Earth @ KLCC video!

It was funny at 0.07s! Hahaha, Freeze became Sneeze! =X

When Shen Leong shouted, " I SAY, WOOO!" We burst alive and everyone started to do the flash dance!

It's hot in here! There's TOO MUCH CARBON in the atmosphere!!

Take ACTION! Take ACTION! And get some SATISFACTION!

Behind us there was a great supporter dancing too - the KLCC park fountain!

Video - Dance For The Planet at KLCC

Imagine that if you saw a group of people dancing at KLCC park, what would you react? I think it should be a WOOOOWWW!!!Haha..yea almost everyone stopped walking and stared at us.

As I said, KLCC is Kuala Lumpur's landmark. That's why the photo taken in front of KLCC on that day was featured on the front page of 350.org, showing that actions have been taken in Malaysia to combat climate change!

Hey, we made it to the official website of 350.org okie! yahooo..I mean, YAHOOOOO!!!!!

Who says Malaysian youths aren't progressive? Right after that, we went for the second round of flash dance in Pavillion Kuala Lumpur while the UM students went to KL Sentral for another Freeze For Earth.

Pavillion Kuala Lumpur is just a walking distance from KLCC. It's also an ideal place to do the flash dance because recently Pavillion just won the international Fiabci award as “World’s Best Retail Centre” . They are also working closely with Tourism Malaysia to make Malaysia, a major tourist attraction.

Kata orang tua-tua, " ada gula ada semut"

Jadi, ada Pavillion, pasti ada orang lah! =D

That's why we wanted to freeze and dance at Pavillion. Hehehe

We did the Freeze For Earth first before the dance.  I love the part where everyone was frozen. Seriously, It was my first time to stop moving.  (except the time when I go for my beauty sleep =p)

Ehhh wait...spot the crystal fountain behind us? You know, it has become a new national landmark!

The Tallest Liuli Crystal Fountain in Malaysia endorsed by The Malaysia Book of Records! The three bowls of the fountain represent Malaysia’s multiracial culture living harmoniously and its ascending design signifies the growing aspirations of the people.

Now, Open your big eyes and look into it!  The design of the fountain features the “Bloom of the Hibiscus” - the national flower of Malaysia.  It symbolize of opulence, passion and progression.

Bunga Raya (Hibiscus) . The 5 petals stand for Rukun Negara!

So the green warriors never forget to take a photo with the great Pavillion Crystal Fountain too!

Video 3 - "Freeze For Earth" and "Dance For The Planet" at Pavillion.

We finished our dance at around 2pm. Just for a morning and I was already exhausted. But my excitement never fades, the whole afternoon we were talking about the 350 dance, discussing the press and of course We took a lot of photos!

YOUth Decide!

YOU!  YES YOU!
We need you the make the world a green greener place!

This is the Freeze For Earth by UM students.
@ KLCC and KL Sentral

The day after 24th, I actually translated the press to chinese.

and yeah we made it to Nan Yang Siang Pau!

350 all around the world!

Australia

USA

Bangladesh

South Africa

India

Mexico

Malaysia!!!

I can't wait to hear the final outcome of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) which will be held in Copenhagen on 7th - 18th December 2009. Hopefully the negotiations result in a favourable outcome. 350 is LOUD! I'm sure world leaders in COP15 will hear that.

I WANT 350! WE WANT 350!

Don't forget

1 Malaysia
WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!

MANILA

Global Peace Convention will be held in Manila from 10-14 December 2009.

And I'M ATTENDING!!!

It's hard to believe because on the 14th December I still have to come back and sit for SPM. So after the Chemistry exam on 8th Dec, I will have one day to rest and then on 10th Dec I'm going to Manila.  I will be back on 13th Dec and sit for Chinese exam on the next day. Like what CP said, 35 years later I can tell people that I flew across the South China Sea between papers. LOL.

The theme of GPC 2009 is

“Peacebuilding for the 21st Century: Interfaith, Service and Family”

If you look at the program, there are many interesting topics and sessions ranging from family renewal, interfaith cooperation, service & volunteerism, NGO fundraising, youth empowerment, new media etc.

The program also include a fact-finding tour to Mindanao on the last day (December 14), jointly organized with the local government. The tour will include visit to Peace Village and Peace School, which is a great model to learn from.

The good news is scholarships are available. The registration fee is USD 400, but you may apply for partial waive of the fee. School Kits for Kids

Nigeria's poverty has been decimating educational efforts as children in many parts of the rural communities face incredible obstacles in getting an education.

For example, in Ugiri, Imo State, Nigeria, a tiny village between two mountain ranges, many children must walk a mile or more to school.

These children long to have their very own school kit, which includes a notebook, a ruler, pencils, a pencil sharpener, an eraser, paper, crayons, and safety scissors. But many parents have no regular income and cannot afford it.

CHRIFACAF is working to meet the educational needs of children who have been denied that opportunity. However, even if education becomes available, educational supplies are often severely lacking in the rural schools.

Here is a great way for individuals or groups of ANY AGE to help.

(A) WHAT DO I PUT IN IT?

All kits must include the following

1. Notebook
2. Pencil
3. Pencil sharpener

Terry Fox Run is on again!

TERRY FOX RUN??

The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions across the globe in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope and to raise money for cancer research.

Something special about Terry Fox Run is that it has no corporate sponsorship. This is in accordance with Terry Fox's original wishes of not seeking fame or fortune from his endeavour. During his cross-Canada run, he turned down every endorsement he was offered (including from major multinationals such as McDonald's), as he felt that it would detract from his goal of creating public awareness.

“I don’t feel that this is unfair. That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did. It gives it more meaning. It’ll inspire more people. I just wish people would realize that anything’s possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.

The International Day Of Peace

Stop Emo-ing, Be A Pacifist

We, the peacemakers went to Sunway Pyramid to promote peace on the International Day Of Peace. Cladding in the same peace T-shirt, we got attention from people!

2 days before the peace day...

Everyone came to MZ to collect their shirts.

Here's our great supporters!

Opps couldn't fit. Too small =(

Kartik and Viknesh looked happy!

On the very day,we gathered at Serdang KTM station in the morning. Before this a lot of people actually asked me why don't we book a bus to go there just like what we did for Earth Hour and Bon Odori. Ok, that's because I wanted to get attention from more people. So the crowded morning train in Malaysia would be the best choice. Yeah!

We reached Serdang KTM a little bit late. Anyway, we MANAGED to take a photo..haha

Spot my car behind there? I must introduce it to you.

That's my MYVI! (with a 'P' sticker on it)

Let me show you a Myvi!!

Despite its petite look, Myvi actually has spacious headroom and legroom for driver and passenger seats This translate into a comfotable seating with ample space between your head and the roof and sufficient room for you to stretch your legs.(Although I'm not tall but I just love it =D )

More peacemakers were coming over to support us!

Sizes of smile.

Small =>

Medium. =)

EXTRA LARGE! =D

A 20-minute train brought us to KL Sentral.

KL Sentral is always so crowded. Everyone comes here because it is a place which is connected to almost all the places in Malaysia. You can take a bus, KTM, LRT, Monorail and etc here. How many places can I go from KL Sentral? Don't ask me, ask the map. =p

We found something very creative at KL Sentral.

Pastikan mereka tergoda oleh MINYI di KL Sentral xD

Sekali Lagi! =D haha!

This was really funny and people were actually glaring at us. They must be thinking "What? What are these people doing??" LOL

From KL Sentral, we took another KTM to Subang Jaya.

"Sunway, here we come!"

A lot of us had not been to Sunway Pyramid for quite a long time. When I reached there, the building seriously struck me. WOW! THE LION IS BIGGER THAN ME!

You just have to take a KTM from KL Sentral to Subang Jaya and get into a mini bus which is just outside the Subang Jaya KTM station. For about 5 minutes, you will reach Sunway Pyramid.

People like to come here because Sunway Lagoon is just a walking distance from Sunway Pyramid! Sunway Lagoon is separated into 3 major themed lands, each boasting their own exciting attractions. Find entertainment, adventure and excitement all in place. I'm sure you will bring back more than just memories. Click here.

We had mission to accomplish today. And for now, it was time we got attention from people. =p

Standing straight in this way was seriously drawing attention from people.

Ok people were looking at us...good! =D

While having lunch, the peacemakers never forgot to promote peace

muacks! it's one way of spreading the love okie =3

How could we miss the chance of ice-skating when we came to Sunway Pyramid?

There is a big ice-skating rink in the complex. Just pay RM21 for the entrance fee and you can have fun skating for whole day long. Reminder : Gloves and socks are required, bring your own if possible!

That's why I say Sunway Pyramid is unique. It's not merely a shopping complex but also a place where people can skate and swim!

We are ready. To fall. haha

People from other schools came to join us. So you could see more and more people wear the same type of shirts. Cool!

Satu Malaysia! With PEACE around us, I believe that we can make it Satu Dunia! =D

STOP EMO-ING, BE A PACIFIST!

Green Drinks

- Global Premiere of The Age of Stupid

The actor -Pete Postlethwaite

Can you imagine what would the world be like in 2055? Don't ever think that everyone will have their own robot or dogs can fly. It's about climate change!! 46 years later we all will face the devastating consequences of global warming. Global warming is likely to accelerate at a much faster pace and cause more environmental damage than predicted by scientist.

On Sept 22, in 63 countries in the world, premiere of the film The Age of Stupid was released internationally. "The Age Of Stupid" is about a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?'

In Malaysia, screening of "The Age Of Stupid" was held at Millennium Hotel, KL. It was the only screening in Malaysia, how could I miss it? =p

The Raleigh members were helping at the registration counter. Karlye was there also!!

ding! x)

350!

A chat with Ron and Ting Ting about 350.

=X !!!

MYcjn's booth. No coins it is CHANGE I need!

At around 8.00pm, it started with a speech by Steve McCoy.

The film was like one and half hour long.

After that, it was time we shared our ideas on keeping the earth green.

William, me, Sam.

Suggestion!

We are in this together =D
